It’s been an incredible honor to serve as LaPorte County’s Judge for Superior Court 1 for nearly 2 ½ years. Since being appointed to the post September 2005, I have dedicated myself to being fair, consistent, and compassionate in and out of the courtroom.

It is a job of great honor and one I truly love. There is not a day that goes by that I don’t think about the responsibility that comes with being a judge. I was the first college graduate in my family. I never would have imagined being a lawyer let alone a judge. When I started teaching high school fresh out of college, I never dreamed I would have the opportunity to go to law school. But here I am.

I was fortunate to the have the opportunity to serve as an administrative law judge, probate commissioner and magistrate before taking the bench in Sup Ct 1. It is a job of service and I am glad to have had the opportunity to serve on the bench first as a Magistrate for three years and now as judge. This is my passion – I love the law – the intellectual challenge. Being a Judge combines the law in its highest form with the opportunity to serve the public.

I think we have accomplished many things in the last 2 ½ years and there is much more I want to do.
I promise this:

  • to work hard every day and to think outside the box, and not do things because that is the way they have always been done,
  • to bring an honest perspective,
  • to strive every day to maintain the integrity and ethical standards that our justice system is built on, and
  • to make the court a vehicle of positive social change while never compromising the enforcement of the laws of our state.

I’ll never forget as judge I am a servant of the people--no better than and not superior to anyone else. Superior Court 1 is not my courtroom…it belongs to all of us.

You have a big decision to make this coming November, and I hope you’ll take this opportunity to learn more about me and my work for LaPorte County. Through this web portal, I’ll share my views and hopefully answer all your questions.
We’ve got a good thing going, and we’ve got a lot more work ahead! In the coming months, I look forward to talking with you!
